Recovered across Oman’s Empty Quarter in 2002, JaH 073 traces a vast story: a 19 × 6 km strewn field, the largest documented in the Sultanate, scattered by a low-angle entry and ultimately yielding thousands of stones with a total known weight measured in the hundreds of kilograms. A desert classic with impeccable documentation, it’s a benchmark Omani find.

Scientifically, JaH 073 is an L6 ordinary chondrite, a metamorphosed, largely recrystallized matrix with subdued chondrule definition, showing average shock ~S4 and weathering typically W2–W4 across the field. In plain terms: a textbook L-group stone that records deep thermal processing on its parent body, then a long, arid residency that lends the material its characteristic desert patina.
