Iron meteorites are a type of meteorite primarily composed of metallic iron-nickel alloys, with small amounts of other elements such as cobalt. These meteorites are often the remnants of the cores of ancient, differentiated planetary bodies that were once molten. As these bodies cooled, denser metals like iron and nickel sank to the core, leaving the lighter silicate materials to form the crust.
