Witnessed in Morocco in March 1986, nomads heard a sharp whistle as a single 1,215.5-gram stone landed roughly 200 meters from their tent. Fifteen days later, the stone was broken during a wedding ceremony, some of it placed upon the altar, ensuring that today only distributed fragments remain from this singular fall. 

 

Scientifically, Oued el Hadjar is an LL6 ordinary chondrite: low total iron and very low native metal (the hallmark of the LL group) that has been thermally metamorphosed to petrologic type 6, where original chondrules are largely recrystallized.
